Split Pea soup Recipes
There are many varied split pea soup recipes, as spilt pea soup recipes tend to be a favorite. Most split pea soup recipes call for the following ingredients:
1 pound dry green split peas
1 pound Polish sausage
1 quart water
1 medium white onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped into 1/8 inch pieces

Sauté minced garlic with a tablespoon of olive oil and butter in a soup pot or a Dutch oven, until it is golden in colour. Add the ham bone and the water used to soak the peas. Add two more quarts of water and finally, add the bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil for a minute, reduce the heat and let it simmer while covered for an hour. Remove the cover and then let it simmer for an hour. Add the carrots in the last 20 or 30 minutes. Add more garlic, salt and pepper to get the desired taste. Bring another pot of water to boil and cook spaghetti in it according to the instructions on the packet. Drain the spaghetti and stir it into the soup before serving. Add any ham left over from the ham bone to the soup. Get rid of the bay leaves in the soup before serving.
