For the basic sugar cookie recipe you need 1 1/2 cups butter, 2 cups white sugar, 4 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla extract (or any flavor depending on taste), 5 cups all purpose flour, 2 tsp baking powder and 1 tsp salt.
